On the 29th and 30th of March, as part of the World Smart Capital event in the RAI in Amsterdam, the city of Amsterdam and Waag Society bring you the Commons for Europe kickoff event. With a.o. Esteve Almirall (Esade), Nigel Jacob (Boston City Hall), Melissa Lee (Esade) en Ivonne Jansen-Dings (Waag Society).
Cities around the world are faced with shrinking budgets, increasing demands of services from their citizens and the need to reinvent themselves in their quest to become Smart Cities. The Internet brings new opportunities to orchestrate collaboration, fostering the creation and nourishment of a large base of ‘commons’ in code and user generated content. However many cities lack the resources and mechanisms to take full advantage of this wealth.
Organizations like Code for America are showing how they can effectively and successfully intermediate between citizens and cities and help in closing this gap. Commons for Europe aims to build on the shoulders of this experience working together with cities throughout Europe.
